How to become a Certified 203k Contractor®

Accreditation Requirements

To earn the Certified 203k Contractor® designation, the contractor must meet FHA minimum requirements, complete the 203k education course, and provide verification of license, insurance, working capital, and residential remodeling experience.

What This Accreditation Means

The Certified 203k Contractor® credential validates that your company has the knowledge, financial resources, and operational capability to complete FHA 203k projects in compliance with federal guidelines and state banking regulations.

As a Certified 203k Contractor®, you gain access to thousands of FHA 203k projects along with comprehensive expertise in the FHA 203k guidelines, FHA 203k loan variations, FHA compliant proposal formats, pricing structure, required documentation, timelines, draw processes, and change order procedures.

Enrollment

The standard enrollment fee is $975. Qualifying contractors may be eligible for a discount of up to $400. Complete the questions below to determine your eligibility and applicable discount.

Certified 203k Contractor® Qualifying Questions

  • Answering the 5 qualifying questions will take 30 seconds.
  • If approved, you will proceed to complete the Enrollment Form will take approximately 10 minutes.
  • The entire 203k Contractor Certification Program can be completed in as few as 15 hours but contractors are permitted up to 30 calendar days.

Answer 5 Qualifying Questions

1) Does your company meet the license/registration* requirement for the area(s) it services?
*Some cities, towns, counties, states do not require a license/registration
2) Does your company have an active General Liability Insurance policy of at least $1,000,000?
3) Can your company provide a minimum of 3 residential homeowner customers who hired your company directly during the previous 12 months?
4) Can you complete a 15 hour online course in the next 30 days to earn the accreditation?
5) Does your company have $15,000 working capital* to start a small-medium project ($75k max) with no deposits from the customer?
*Working Capital definition: any combination of cash reserves and/or lines of credit, such as credit cards, building suppliers, etc.
