How to become a Certified 203k Contractor®

Earning the accreditation as a Certified 203k Contractor® involves learning the 203k guidelines, the different versions of the 203k, proposal format, pricing structure, FHA forms/paperwork, timelines, payment/draw process, change order process, as well as verification of your credentials and experience, which will enable you to manage your 203k projects efficiently and stay in compliance with federal guidelines and banking regulations.

The Certified 203k Contractor® accreditation provides the validation that your company possesses the necessary 203k knowledge, understanding, financial resources, and ability to properly and efficiently complete FHA 203k projects within federal guidelines and state banking regulations.

The enrollment fee is $975. Contractors meeting certain criteria will receive an enrollment code for a discount ranging from $75 – $400 off.

  • Enrolling to become a Certified 203k Contractor® will take approximately 10 minutes.
  • After completing this enrollment form, contractors are permitted a maximum of 30 calendar days to complete the 203k Contractor Certification Course which typically can be completed in approximately 15 hours.

Answer 5 Qualifying Questions

1) Does your company meet the license/registration* requirement for the area(s) it services?
*Some cities, towns, counties, states do not require a license/registration
2) Does your company have an active General Liability Insurance policy of at least $1,000,000?
3) Can your company provide a minimum of 3 residential homeowner customers who hired your company directly during the previous 12 months?
4) Can you complete a 15 hour online course in the next 30 days to earn the accreditation?
5) Does your company have $15,000 working capital* to start a small-medium project ($75k max) with no deposits from the customer?
*Working Capital definition: any combination of cash reserves and/or lines of credit, such as credit cards, building suppliers, etc.
